Eyes Wide Closed

My friend tells me that when people blink for excessively long times then it's a sign of oddness. I believe it. I find it very odd. Why do some people blink for so long? It's like they are taking a nap in between breaths and words. I cannot concentrate on the conversation but more on when the person will show me their pupils again.
